A Vietnamese domain name was sold for 217 million VND

On the afternoon of March 18, Vietnam Internet Center announced that it had completed the first auction for a series of two-letter domain names. Of the 18 domain names listed on the first day, 16 were successfully auctioned. Among them, the domain name with the highest winning price reached 217 million VND. In addition, some domain names are also priced at 60 million to 150 million VND.

The winning price of each specific domain name as well as the total value of the auction are not announced due to confidentiality requirements. However, VNNIC also said that the total amount of money from successfully auctioned domain names is about 200-260% compared to the total starting value. With a starting price of 10 million VND, the total proceeds from today’s auction could reach more than 400 million VND.

In addition, the auction also recorded a domain name with 85 bids from 28 attendees.

This is the first time the national domain name “.vn” has been auctioned. With a total of 1,296 domain names, considered a “special resource”, the number is limited. They have a short structure, are easy to remember and have high brand recognition value. For example, there are domain names associated with big brands such as mb, lg, hc, cj… which have high value in protecting and developing digital brand assets; or refer to industries such as ot (automotive), dd.vn (mobile), suitable for building specialized brands.

“The public auction of this group of domain names aims to effectively exploit national Internet resources, while creating transparent opportunities for businesses and investors to own unique online identities in the ‘.vn’ digital ecosystem,” said a VNNIC representative.

To participate in the auction, buyers need to deposit 1 million VND in advance. Domain names in this round have a starting price of 10 million VND, with price increments of 1 million VND.

In 2026, auction activities will be carried out in two phases in March and June. In which, phase 1 has 50 two-letter domain names that will be auctioned online. The auctions are expected to take place over three days, from March 18 to March 20.
