Mark Zuckerberg and Jensen Huang work as technology advisors for Mr. Trump

US President Donald Trump selected a number of technology leaders to join the policy advisory council, especially on AI.

On March 25, the White House announced the establishment of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST). The new organization is co-chaired by David Sacks, who served as the White House’s AI and cryptography advisor, and technology advisor Michael Kratsios.

“Under President Trump, PCAST will focus on topics related to the opportunities and challenges that emerging technologies bring to the American workforce, as well as ensuring all Americans thrive in a golden era of innovation,” the White House said.

On the same day, the US President announced the list of the first 13 members from the industry, including Google co-founder Sergey Brin, Dell founder Michael Dell, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison, AMD CEO Lisa Su, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. According to an executive order issued later, the final council could consist of 24 people.

“America has the opportunity to lead the world in AI,” Zuckerberg told WSJ. “I am honored to join the President’s council and work with other industry leaders across the industry to make this a reality.”

Mr. Dell also said he wanted to cooperate with the council to “promote policies, enhance US competitiveness and national security”.

Previous US presidents such as George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Joe Biden also established similar technology advisory councils. These organizations often serve as advisors to the White House on important issues related to scientific developments, and their membership often reflects the priorities of the current president.

During his first term, President Trump also established a technology advisory council, but the members at that time were considered “not as prominent” as this time. According to experts, the willingness of large business leaders to take on advisory roles in the Trump administration is a big change compared to his first term.
