Here’s how the robot taxis will drive in Zagreb: This is not an EU project

In the first phase, futuristic robot taxis such as those presented to the public will not appear on Zagreb’s roads. Instead, existing vehicle models will be used, with the presence of a safety operator behind the wheel. Riverč is about standard industry practice, like Waymo’s, to ensure maximum safety before full automation.

The company emphasizes that funds from EU funds, a total of almost 90 million euros, were used exclusively for the development and testing of the system, while more than 100 million euros were secured from private sources.

As for the technology, it is confirmed that they tested several systems, including solutions from the company Mobileye, but in the end they decided on Pony.ai because, they claim, it best suits the needs of the project.
