LEED v5 and EU Taxonomy, technology for real estate

According to data from the GBCI Europe Impact Report 2026, 53% of European real estate leaders now consider resilience a financial priority, highlighting a convergence between operational performance, energy efficiency and asset value protection.

Kay Kilmann, Head of Europe at GBCI, observes: “We are witnessing a profound evolution in the way risk is defined in our industry, today risk goes beyond just climate considerations and includes financial, regulatory and insurance factors that directly impact investment decisions“.

In this scenario Italy emerges as a leading market, ranking third in Europe in 2025 for certification activities, with volumes that in the first part of 2026 grew by 1.8 times on an annual basis.

Fabrizio Capaccioli, President of GBC Italia, underlines: “Sustainable construction in Italy and Europe is entering a new phase, in which performance is no longer measured only through environmental parameters, but through the ability of assets to respond in an integrated way to climate, economic and social challenges“. The integration of technologies for decarbonization and ESG reporting therefore allows the performance of individual buildings to be linked to urban-scale portfolio strategies, reducing reputational vulnerabilities and ensuring compliance with growing international regulatory pressures.
