The company Signify has presented in Madrid two strategic initiatives with which it seeks transform the lighting sector over the coming years through sustainable innovation and the circular economy. Under the ‘Brighter Lives, Better World 2030’ and ‘Signify Circle’ programs, the company proposes a new vision to respond to one of the great global challenges: illuminating the future while reducing environmental impact.
During the event, David Albertín, president and general director of Signify for Spain, highlighted the company’s commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency and expressed its commitment to “improving people’s lives and reducing the impact on the planet through light.” “With Brighter Lives, Better World 2030, we reinforce this ambition through clear objectives focused on well-being, energy efficiency and the responsible use of resources,” he added.
The company remembers that Lighting represents about 9 percent of global electricity consumption, a particularly relevant fact in a context marked by decarbonization objectives and the volatility of energy prices. In this scenario, Signify defends a model in which light not only serves to illuminate spaces, but also to contribute to a more sustainable and efficient environment.
Signify proposes this strategy from three areas, the first of which is “improving lives.” In this sense, Signify predicts that by 2030, 41 percent of its income will come from solutions that go beyond traditional lighting, with applications linked to health, well-being, public safety or efficient food production.
Another aspect is energy saving, for which the company is committed to achieve accumulated savings of 60 TWh for its customersas well as a 35 percent reduction in the emissions intensity of its portfolio. Additionally, Signify plans to achieve net zero emissions by 2040, ten years ahead of the goals set by the Paris Agreement.
The third axis, ‘Preserve resources’, contemplates that 27.5 percent of the income of the European professional business comes from ‘Signify Circle’ solutions by the end of the decade, promoting a model based on use fewer materials, prolong the useful life of products and encourage their reuse.
For a product to be considered ‘Signify Circle’, it must meet requirements related to three fundamental principles: use fewer resources and materials, increase the durability and reparability of the products, and facilitate their recycling and reuse, as Albertín detailed during his presentation.
With these initiatives, Signify aims to position itself as “one of the actors leading the transition towards more efficient, sustainable lighting models aligned with the circular economy and decarbonization objectives both in Spain and the rest of Europe,” he concludes.
