Among the international keynote speakers was BBC journalist Joe Tidy, who specializes in cybercrime and digital security. Speaking of contemporary threats, he warned that young people are increasingly, sometimes unknowingly, entering the world of cybercrime through online communities and digital platforms. He also pointed out that today organized criminal groups act like professional technology companies, with developed business models and global infrastructure.
Finnish cyber security expert Sami Laiho spoke about the current forms of ransomware attacks, stressing that small and medium-sized companies are among the most frequent targets. He particularly warned against the use of artificial intelligence in the development of more sophisticated fraud and attacks, which further increases security risks and complicates the defense of organizations.
Span Cyber Security Arena Program Director and Head of Information Security at Span Hrvoje Englman said that the experiences and examples presented at the conference show that cyber threats have become everyday for organizations of all sizes. He emphasized the importance of consistent implementation of security policies, access control, system segmentation, timely detection of threats and regular testing of crisis scenarios.

The importance of the regulatory framework was also warned by Antonija Vojnovi, who pointed out that laws and security standards help organizations identify risks, define responsibilities and reduce vulnerability. She added that technical solutions by themselves are not enough without clearly defined procedures and responsibilities within organizations.
One of the main topics of the conference was the need for a stronger connection between the business and IT sectors in the management of security risks. The participants agreed that cyber security is no longer an exclusively technical issue, but part of a broader business management strategy and organizational resilience.
This year’s Span Cyber Security Arena once again confirmed the growing interest of the business community in digital security issues and the importance of sharing experiences and practical examples in dealing with increasingly complex security challenges.
