Apple designs the new Siri with AI to help the user instead of being their ‘romantic partner’

Apple’s goal is that the new Siri with AI is that completely abandon the complacent attitude attributed to most chatbots with Artificial Intelligence (AI), and be an assistant that really helps the user, instead of becoming their virtual partner.

At WWDC 2026, Apple presented the new Siri, which is now characterized by support for natural language, have contextual awareness and perform advanced actions within the applications, in addition to offering an experience in the style of other AI chatbots.

In an interview on the Mostly Human podcast with Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi, and Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, Greg Joswiak, the former stated that the new Siri will not act like the rest of ‘chatbots’ from OpenAI, Google and others.

“It’s like they want to catch you. “They could encourage you to reveal things about yourself and then use that as the basis for establishing a connection,” Federighi qualifies about a personality trait that AI chatbots suffer from to a greater or lesser extent.

Federighi suggests with these words that Apple’s approach goes exactly the opposite wayand which is based on a design in which Siri acts to really help the user, instead of trying to ‘hook’ them into continuing the conversation almost infinitely.

Apple’s perspective is clear in stating that “If you’re trying to interact with Siri as a romantic partner, that’s not what Siri is for.“. That is, even with its new capabilities for natural conversation, Apple’s AI assistant will never try to establish a connection with its users.

This angle totally clashes with what OpenAI has been offering with ChatGPT and of which the GPT-4o model was the greatest exponent. After removing it in the summer of 2025, Sam Altman had to go back on his plans to bring it back due to the frustration that users felt at being left without an extremely accommodating chatbot.

Greg Joswiak takes Federighi’s baton to reiterate again that Apple’s motivation is none other than to help the userinstead of having it ‘hooked’. The idea is to differentiate itself from other companies whose business model is based on retaining the user in their application to earn money.

It is the slope through which Siri will go to the offer concise answers and leave it up to the user to continue the conversation if that is their need.

In this sense, Anthropic with Claude has also made quite a lot of progress so that your AI chatbot is more honest, and even able to admit inconsistencies in its responses.

In fact, Anthropic used the honesty of its AI model to name one of the main features of Claude Opus 4.7, following the complete revamp of Claude’s Constitution (the value system with which its AI is trained) that was published in early 2026.
