Apple to skip advanced versions of M6 chip to focus on AI-focused M7

Apple plans to launch its M6 chips this year, but will keep them in a more standard range by focusing its efforts on the development of the next iteration, M7, designed specifically for artificial intelligence.

The technology company has modified the plans it had for its Apple Silicon processors with the aim of aligning with the demand for devices that run artificial intelligence.

Although it plans to launch the M6 ​​series this year, focused on entry-level Mac computers, it will not have variants with higher features (Pro and Max) because the company is focused on the next chip, M7, as sources familiar with this matter have shared with Bloomberg.

M7, scheduled for 2027 and developed under the code name Delos or H19G, it would be designed for devices with local AI and also included improvements in advanced computing and graphics power, with a memory width of up to 240 gigabytes per second.

This series would have variants with greater capacities: M7 Pro and M7 Maxwhich would arrive at the end of 2027, and M7 Ultrawhich would appear in early 2028.

Regarding the chip M6this has been developed internally under the codename Komodo or H18G, and Apple has already tested it on a new MacBook Pro (J804), which is expected to arrive this year.

The processor will offer bandwidth improvements (up to 200 gigabytes per second) to speed up tasks such as video editing, running AI or rendering high-resolution graphics. will have a new memory architecture and an updated neural engine, in addition to changes in the unit that processes the graphics, along with a GPU with twelve graphics cores.

Apple’s roadmap also includes the chip M5 Ultra (Sotra D or H17D), as reported by Bloomberg. This would be available this year along with the Mac Studio computer (J775) and would have about 36 processing units and an 80-core GPU.
