LinkedIn report, AI is changing work in the EU and Italy

In Italy, where the current hiring rate is 30% lower than pre-pandemic levels within an uncertain macroeconomic context, the roles most exposed to the introduction of AI do not record significantly greater job losses than other professions. The data instead indicates a growth in opportunities for profiles capable of combining technical skills and transversal human skillssuch as decision-making, leadership, communication, collaboration and strategic thinking.

Across Europe, the ability to develop and attract specialized talent has become a central factor for the competitiveness of individual countries and industrial systems. For Italy the survey highlights the need to strengthen the pool of professionals in the field of AI engineering, given that the concentration of these talents currently stands at 0.43%, compared to a European average of 0.90%. The country also records a net negative migration of professionals in the sector, an element inserted in a context of strong international competition where AI engineers are eight times more likely to move abroad than the average of other professionals registered on the platform.

Within the national panorama, the Defense and Space sector stands out as the area in which the greatest presence of skills related to AI is foundfollowed by key sectors such as technology, professional services, financial services, utilities and education.

At a territorial level, the city of Milan is positioning itself among the emerging European hubs for new professions linked to the digital economy, standing out in particular for the concentration of figures specialized in the training and improvement of algorithmic systems, such as Prompt Engineer and Data Annotator. “The latest data from our Economic Graph shows that artificial intelligence is impacting the job market especially through the evolution of required skills. For people, companies and institutions, the priority today is to promote the development of the skills necessary to seize the opportunities offered by AI, i.e. continuous training.
