A1 Croatia is shutting down its 3G network on July 6, 2026 in the area of the city of Zagreb, in order to complete the gradual shutdown of 3G technology throughout Croatia, the company announced on Tuesday. The press release states that the shutdown of the 3G network, which began in February 2025, will enable users to switch to more technologically advanced and energy-efficient 4G and 5G technologies, which enable higher speeds, quality and stability in data transmission.

It should also be noted that users who have devices with the possibility of accessing 2G and 3G networks will be able to use their services via the 2G network after the shutdown of the 3G network, which enables the uninterrupted use of voice and SMS services and the use of data traffic in accordance with the capabilities of 2G technology. Users of postpaid tariffs continue to use data traffic undisturbed, provided they have the VoLTE option turned on, so A1 asks users to check their device settings.

Users who use devices that simultaneously have access to 2G and 3G networks, and after shutting down the 3G network, can continue to use their services via the 2G network, which enables uninterrupted use of voice and SMS services, while the use of Internet services depends on the capabilities of 2G technology. networks. In the announcement, it is noted that users who have devices that can access exclusively on the 3G network, but do not acquire devices that can access the 4G or 5G network in time, will not be able to use the Internet service after the 3G network is turned off.

All users whose devices support the use of 4G and 5G networks, but use an older SIM card, can exchange it for free at A1 Croatia sales points. Likewise, all users of older SIM cards were notified by SMS or letter about the shutdown of the 3G network and the need to replace the existing card.

Vladimir Skender from A1 Hrvatska said that by ending the shutdown of the 3G network in Zagreb, the company is bringing to an end an important technological step forward at the level of the whole of Croatia.

– By freeing up the frequency spectrum and directing it towards more advanced 4G and 5G technologies, we provide users with a better quality of service, higher speeds and a more stable user experience. At the same time, we continue to modernize the network in a more sustainable and energy-efficient way, in line with our goal of achieving zero net emissions by 2030 – emphasized Skender.
