Online security and defense are the priorities of Europeans in the Eurobarometer survey

The latest Flash Eurobarometer survey outlines a clear trend in European public opinion towards greater regulation of digital spaces and a strengthening of common defense infrastructures. The safety of minors on social platforms emerges as the main concern: 71% of respondents report cyberbullying as the pre-eminent riskfollowed by sexual exploitation (70%) and exposure to violent or extreme content (69%).

On the technological level, the request for regulatory intervention focuses on limiting access through age verification: 63% of Europeans support the adoption of EU rules that limit access to minors, through absolute bans or delayed access systems. At the same time, the management of information flows is considered critical, especially in relation to the proliferation of content manipulated or generated by artificial intelligence. Clear labeling of AI content and implementation of stricter rules for platforms are identified as necessary levers to preserve the integrity of public debate.

The perception of the democratic pillars remains solid, with the freedom of speech (34%), electoral fairness (32%) and respect for the rule of law (31%) top priorities. In this context, forms of direct and digital participation are seen as effective tools for influencing decision-making processes. This orientation towards the protection of sovereignty extends to the defense sector: 68% of those interviewed agreed on the need to strengthen the defensive autonomy of the EUAnd, with an increase in trust in community institutions, which rises to 56% compared to the January 2026 findings.

On the energy transition frontthe strategy outlined by citizens focuses on the diversification of sources. Over half of those interviewed (56%) identify renewable energy as the main vector for reducing dependence on fossil fuels, while energy efficiency is considered a complementary pillar. Consumption monitoring emerges as a widespread behavior among citizens, with 31% of respondents having implemented direct reductions in electricity use in the face of changing market prices. The adoption of more efficient equipment and the use of renewable self-production solutions complete the picture of the countermeasures adopted by the population to respond to the inflationary pressures of the energy sector.
