Apple has officially presented the iPhone Duo, the first foldable smartphone in its catalogue, after months of rumors and previews. The device integrates two displays: an internal 7.6-inch display with Super Retina XDR technology and an external 5.4-inch display, both made with a nano-textured finish designed to reduce the visibility of the crease and limit reflections. To complete the protection, an anti-scratch coating developed internally by Apple. The FaceTime camera is placed under the internal display, invisible to the eye.
The body of the phone is made of grade 5 titanium and is available in white and dark blue colors, with IP68 certification against dust and water. The side button integrates the Touch ID sensor, which allows you to register multiple fingerprints; unlocking is also possible via Apple Watch. The speakers, positioned at the top and bottom of the device, have been designed to deliver spatial audio. Support for Apple Pencil will arrive later this year.
On the software front, iOS has been adapted to the new dual-screen configuration: the system automatically recognizes the orientation and position of the phone, even when used partially open. A Split View mode has also been introduced that allows you to anchor a video to the top of the screen while continuing to use the remaining portion for other activities. Standby mode has also been redesigned to adapt to the new format.
The heart of the device is the A20 Pro chip, combined with a new graphics engine capable of simultaneously managing both displays, and the C2 cellular modem. Battery life varies depending on the screen used: up to 31 hours of video playback on the internal display and 44 hours on the external one.
As for the photographic sector, iPhone Duo features a 48 megapixel Fusion main sensor with 12 megapixel 2x optical zoom, capable of recording 4K video at 120 frames per second, as well as a 48 megapixel Fusion ultra-wide angle lens. The 12-megapixel Center Stage front camera is located on the external display, while the one for FaceTime video calls is integrated into the internal screen.
Dedicated accessories include the Folio with integrated stand and a two-part case designed to protect each half of the device separately. iPhone Duo will be available starting from the 256GB size at the price of 2,369 euros; pre-orders will start on October 16th, with availability on the market starting from October 23rd.
