Qualcomm has reached an agreement with Microsoft for which it will develop new Augmented Reality (AR) tools aimed at the metaverse, among which are custom processors for the new generation of AR glasses.
As announced by the company specialized in processors during the fair CES 2022 in Las Vegas (United States), both companies seek to accelerate the adoption of AR by both companies and end users.
This collaboration contemplates, by Qualcomm, the development of new custom chips that allow the creation of a new generation of AR glasses and visors with features like lighter weight and higher energy efficiency.
Also, the processor manufacturer plans that its new semiconductors allow the integration of ‘software’ such as Microsoft Mesh and the Snapdragon Spaces extended reality developer platform.
“This collaboration reflects the next step in the shared commitment of both companies to the extended reality and the metaverse“As stated by Hugo Swart, vice president and general manager of XR at Qualcomm Technologies.
