Google confirms that it will bring Gemini Nano to Pixel 8

Google has confirmed that the generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) model Gemini Nano It will also reach the standard version of the ‘smartphone’ family Pixel 8 in the coming months, expectedly starting in June.

Gemini Nano is the smallest version of Google’s large language models (LLM), and is optimized to run generative AI directly on the device, as it already does on the Pixel 8 Pro and the Galaxy S24 series from Samsung.

Although this optimized model will reach more Android devices at the end of the year thanks to the solution AICore, which creates the necessary infrastructure to integrate Nano into a mobile without needing to connect to the cloud, the firm commented earlier this month that this LLM It would not reach Pixel 8.

As announced in the question and answer space of The Android Show, Gemini Nano would not be viable for the standard model of its latest family of mobile phones due to a series of “hardware limitations”, which it did not detail at the time.

Both Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8 are equipped with the Tensor G3 processor, so the only difference between the two centers on their RAM memory, since the standard model has 4 GB, compared to 8 GB for the Pro.

Google’s vice president of devices and software services, Seang Chau, has now confirmed that this LLM adapted to smartphones will finally reach the Pixel 8, which like the most advanced model.

This was indicated on Made by Google Podcast, where he announced that this tool will arrive in the coming months, predictably in June, when the firm is expected to launch new functionalities with Android 14 QPR3, as 9to5Google has commented.

In this developer preview, therefore, this device will have options such as ‘Summary’ in the recorder tool or Gboard Smart Reply, to offer intelligent responses as a conversation.
