“Level UP of women in eSports”: Telefónica conversation addressed female challenges in the gaming world |  TECHNOLOGY

Telefónica Hispanoamérica organized an online event called “Level UP of women in eSports” to talk about the challenges women face in the world of eSports. eSports. At this event, different areas where women are involved in gaming were discussed, such as sponsorship, public relations, and content creation.

They participated in the conversation Francisca Sky Chilean video game and technology communicator; Estefania Carrera sponsorship coordinator at Telefónica Movistar México; Eider Diaz Ascasso, head of communication at CODE SPACE (Spain) and linked to the world of eSports; and Anita Balanzategui head of sponsorship at Telefónica Movistar Ecuador.

They discussed their different professions, some not directly related to video games. However, these experiences have allowed them to work in areas related to eSports, such as public relations and sponsorships.

Francisca Sky complemented her on this: “Being a gamer is not the only role in this industry. If you are a psychologist, you can be one of a team, as well as leading marketing members or being a manager. In eSports you not only live from the competition, there is much more around it than just playing”.

They also talked about the importance of giving more opportunities for women in tournaments of eSports to achieve gender equality. They highlighted that in this industry it does not matter if you are a man or a woman, what matters is your skills.

Furthermore, they mentioned the importance of protect women and children in the eSports industry, through alliances between different groups interested in guaranteeing the safety of those who participate in it.

Female participation

The video game and technology industry has grown with the participation of female gamers. According to the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), Female gamers are on the rise and make up approximately 48% of gamers worldwide. However, there are still barriers to break down, since it is estimated that the 59% of the players reserve their identity to avoid any type of harassment.
