Ottawa. The Niagara region in Canada declared a state of emergency in preparation for the influx of visitors this April to witness the total solar eclipse, local media reported.

The region indicated that the state of emergency is a proactive measure in order to ensure that it will be prepared to respond this once in a lifetime eventindicated CTV News.

Declaring it will strengthen the tools the region has at its disposal to protect the health and safety of residents and visitors and protect critical infrastructure in any scenario that could arise, the report added.

Niagara Falls have been identified as one of the best places in the world to observe the total solar eclipse on April 8, as they are located on the path in which it will be seen in its entirety.

Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati said about one million visitors are expected to come to the region to see the eclipse, CTV News reported.
