AI Connect II Regional Conference was held in Ho Chi Minh City from April 22 – 24 by the US Department of State; Atlantic Council, in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology.

Nearly 100 policymakers, senior managers and representatives of technology companies, scholars, and regional organizations shared about the issues raised in the process of research and development of artificial intelligence technology. (AI), experiences and solutions suitable for the region.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui The Duy said that Asia-Pacific is expected to become a dynamic development region in the world. Accordingly, member countries should increase the exchange of information and experiences to strengthen international cooperation, for the goal of developing AI in a sustainable way.

Affirming the advantages of AI, providing opportunities to contribute to economic and social development and health care, the Deputy Minister also acknowledged concerns about AI in terms of socio-economic and ethical aspects. virtue.

Mr. Duy said that Vietnam has developed a National Strategy and Policy to exploit the benefits of AI while minimizing risks by encouraging investment in responsible AI research and development; leveraging AI in specific industries such as transportation and healthcare; human resource building; adjust relevant policy and regulatory frameworks as well as develop standards; international cooperation on AI.

According to Ms. Anne Benjaminson, Deputy Consulate General of the US in Ho Chi Minh City, AI Connect is a series of events affirming America’s contribution to the responsible and comprehensive development of AI technology, bringing benefits to everyone. people in the Asia-Pacific region, in accordance with the AI ​​Principles of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

AI Connect II is designed to help low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) from Southeast Asia more effectively participate in global conversations on AI policy.

Previously, the OECD acknowledged that AI is revolutionizing lifestyles and working, and bringing extraordinary benefits to society and the economy. However, AI also poses new challenges and concerns and ethical concerns. This puts the onus on governments to ensure that AI systems are designed in a way that respects human values ​​and laws, so human safety and privacy will be paramount. .

There are currently no international principles on AI. OECD principles are being referenced by AI developing countries when making their policies.
