The eighth edition of El Aleph: Festival of Art and Science, with the theme Challenges of artificial intelligence and other intelligences, will be held from May 8 to 19, and will be a space to dialogue, listen and reflect on the impact of incorporation and the reality of artificial intelligence tools with different disciplines of human knowledge, said Juan Ayala, technical secretary of Planning and Programming of UNAM Culture.
In a press conference, he reported that the event will bring together 255 participants in more than 72 activities and 90 functions, which include talks, workshops, plays, music, dance and cinema, in which prominent scientists and international artists will surprise and enrich the look of the attendees over 10 days.
In the context of this festival, an important space will be opened for visual conceptual art in several venues, one of them the Colegio de San Ildefonso, which will be the venue for the major exhibition. Face to Face for México, by Brian Eno, a multifaceted artist known for being a founding member of the legendary band Roxy Music and being a producer for musicians such as David Bowie, Talking Heads, U2, Coldplay and Grace Jones. He highlighted that in Latin America it would be the second place where it is presented.
Another venue will be the Palace of Autonomy, where six exhibitions will be housed whose common denominator is the use of different artificial intelligence tools.
“We are grateful for this collaboration with the Ministry of Culture of Mexico City and the Colegio de San Ildefonso, which by doing scouting We saw that it was the ideal place, not only because of the piece and the vocation of the space, but also because of the dialogue with those extraordinary murals, which makes it an interesting feat to host this exhibition there,” he said.

Ayala highlighted that among the presentations is a film powered by artificial intelligence, of Polish and Hungarian origin, called in Spanish Dwellers among the watersin which perennial human conditions and realities are questioned through images and a series of visual pieces.
In her speech during the press conference, Rosa Beltrán, coordinator of UNAM Cultural Diffusion, emphasized the presentation of Mozart Requiemby Gloria Contreras, an iconic work executed by the UNAM Choreographic Workshop and that “had not been offered for many years.
“The piece is a good pretext to intervene in some fragments of the Requiem to be able to manipulate artificial intelligence tools developed by Jaime Lobato and a team from the UNAM Mathematics Institute.”
Hannah Price, director of immersive development at the Shakespeare Museum, said that her participation in this festival will address the combination of artificial intelligence technologies with storytelling expertise.
I’m going to talk about my obsession with technology within these areas and some of the highest level projects, where millions of pounds have been invested in famous historic locations, such as the Tower of London.
José Gordon, science popularizer and curator of El Aleph, commented that during this festival the two positions on AI will be discussed, which are those of the apocalyptic people and the integrated ones (referring to Umberto Eco), in various spheres of reflection.
