Threads reaches 150 million monthly users

Threads, the text-based social media platform owned by Meta, through its founder Mark Zuckerberg, announced that it has surpassed 150 million monthly active users. Meta’s CEO expressed satisfaction with the growth of the app, launched on July 5, 2023 in over 100 countries. The distinctive feature of Threads is the ability to publish messages of up to 500 characters, exceeding the Twitter limit, where the user can enrich their posts with photos, videos of up to five minutes and web linksoffering sharing versatility that goes beyond simple text.

Susan Li, CFO at Meta, said Threads is seeing its base grow as it continually introduces significant new features and expands its community. Despite a tumultuous start in Europe due to uncertainties related to the Digital Markets Act (DMA) and data privacy, Threads has shown exponential growth, recording 10 million signups in just the first seven hours of launch.

Zuckerberg then highlighted how the arrival of celebrities such as Taylor Swift on the platform has generated great enthusiasm, even in his family, and similarly the presence of figures linked to the world of entertainment contributes significantly to the dynamism and attractiveness of Threads.

In a recent twist, Apple has removed Threads, along with WhatsApp, Telegram and Signal, from the App Store in China on April 19, on orders from the Cyberspace Administration of China, which cited national security concerns.
