TikTok recovers Taylor Swift and Bad Bunny songs with new licensing agreement with UMG

Tiktok and Universal Music Group (UMG) have reached a “multidimensional” agreement that will allow users of the social network to once again use the songs of artists such as Taylor swift and Bad Bunny in their videos.

The “multidimensional” licensing agreement signed by both parties will allow the songs of UMG artists, composers and labels to return to the social network, and to do so, in addition, with a new agreement on remuneration and protection against artificial intelligence.

“This new chapter in our relationship with TikTok focuses on the value of music, the primacy of human art and the well-being of the creative community,” said Universal Music Group president and CEO Lucian Grainge in a note. of press.

Users will be able to use UMG’s song catalog again in their videos, from artists such as Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, Bad Bunny and Ariana Grande or Drake, after the collaboration between TikTok and the record company ended at the end of January.

Both parties have agreed on new forms of monetization for artists, which will be accompanied by new analysis tools and integrated sales capabilities, which will also help build their global fan bases by leveraging the reach of the video platform.

Likewise, protections have been agreed for “human art and the economy that flows to artists and composers” to meet the challenges posed by the development of AI in this sector. TikTok has also committed to removing “unauthorized AI-generated music” from its service.

“Music is an integral part of the TikTok ecosystem and we are happy to have found a way forward with Universal Music Group,” concludes Tiktok CEO Shou Chew.

After reaching this new agreement, Tiktok and Universal Music Group are working to make the songs available “in due time” for users of the social network.
