The Nintendo World Championship returns, in online format and with challenges of 13 classic NES games

Nintendo has announced the celebration of World Championships: NES Edition, which will be held on July 18, with which players will be able to test their skills from home to make the jump to the World Championship in an online format.

Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition is a world competition in which players from all over the world can participate on Nintendo Switch, who will compete in more than 150 small challenges from 13 classic NES games.

This is a tribute to the in-person Nintendo World Championships, which took place in 1990, 2015 and 2017, as Nintendo reported in a press release. The new edition will be digital only and will be held the July 18.

The company encourages players to “warm up” by breaking their own records in single-player mode (Speedrun) and then moving on to compete locally in Party mode. The active subscription to Nintendo Switch Online will allow them to access the mode world Championshipwhere they will be able to present the best times they have achieved in five challenges (which will rotate every week), to try to gain a place in the world rankings.

Specifically, they will be able to test their skills in speedrun challenges taken from Balloon Fight, Donkey Kong, Excitebike, Ice Climber, Kid Icarus, Kirby’s Adventure, Metroid, Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels, The Legend of Zelda y Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.

It will also be available on July 18 Deluxe de Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition, a special edition pack that includes a physical version of the title, a set of five collectible pins, 13 commemorative illustrated cards (one for each classic NES game included in this title) and a replica of the golden NES ‘game pak’ (only for exhibition, with support included), in memory of the one that was awarded as a prize at the original Nintendo World Championships in 1990.
