On Disney Plus Marvel in augmented reality for Apple Vision Pro

Marvel Studios and ILM Immersive have announced new content designed for mixed reality and, above all, Apple Vision Pro: the two companies have unveiled “What If…? – An Immersive Story”, a special episode that represents the first original content interactive Disney Plus. This novelty is intended exclusively for Apple’s VR viewer, and promises to offer a unique experience that combines AR and VR. The hour-long episode is based on the series “What If…?” of Marvel available on Disney Plus.

Marvel has revealed that the content will be highly interactive, and the viewer will be asked to learn the mystical arts of Doctor Strange, and will be tasked with harnessing the power of the Infinity Stones. One of the scenes shown from the new immersive series captures a person holding a green Infinity Stone, with an outstretched hand trying to grab it from the foreground, suggesting an intriguing and visually stimulating gameplay dynamic.

The “What If…?” has so far been well received by fans, and there is hope that this new format offers something more than the simple interactive immersive experiences seen for example on Netflix, which can often feel repetitive. Even if the outcome remains uncertain, the fact that the platform needs new content is indisputable: Vision Pro, after a launch period in which nothing else was talked about, has remained in the background in recent months, awaiting a global launch (for now it is only available in the States) which has not yet been announced by Apple.
