Istria, Pirovac, Murter: ‘It is often blue, it is not uncommon to see them in the summer months’

With the arrival of the summer months and tourists, there are more and more shots of sharks swimming in the sea, although it is less common for them to wander in the shallows, as happened in Pirovac.

After Istria and Pirovac, on Saturday two sharks were spotted near Murter. They are so common there that the famous pizzeria is also called ‘Shark’.

Prof. dr. sc. Alen Soldo from the Department of Marine Studies at the University of Split told us that it was probably blue.

– It is very difficult to conclude from the video which species it is because a whole series of details is missing for precise and accurate identification. Therefore, one can only guess which species it is, but its movement is most reminiscent of the blue shark, which is the most widespread species of larger shark in the Adriatic – said prof. dr. sc. Alen Soldo from the Department of Marine Studies, University of Split.

He explains that with the arrival of the summer season and the increase in the number of people at sea, it is to be expected that there will be more and more such scenes, including shots of sharks.

At the beginning of the week, a shark was filmed near Medulin, and as the reader said, it was a shark about a meter and a half long, which was first spotted by the guests of the camp in Medulin.

Although blues are not dangerous, they have teeth and can use them if they feel attacked, so it is best to leave them alone if they are encountered on the high seas.
