After the death of Christian Ziege’s wife Pia, numerous former companions and also his former employer FC Bayern Munich expressed their condolences. “Our condolences from the bottom of our hearts from the entire Bayern family,” wrote the German record champions on Instagram about several photos uploaded by Ziege.
Among others, two-time Bundesliga top scorer Stefan Kuntz, ex-Bayern striker Giovane Elber and Olympic slalom champion Hilde Gerg also expressed their condolences. Ziege, European champion with the national team in 1996, had previously announced that his wife had died last Monday after a long, serious illness. The two married in 1997. The marriage resulted in two children.
The 52-year-old played 72 international matches for Germany, including winning the UEFA Cup twice and becoming German champion twice. In 1996 he was part of the DFB squad that won the European Championship title in England.
