A suspect in plotting a terrorist attack at a Christmas market has been detained in Germany.

In Elmshorn (Schleswig-Holstein), police detained a 17-year-old teenager on suspicion of preparing a terrorist attack at the Christmas market.

The Bild publication writes that the teenager, whose parents are from Turkey, as follows from intercepted correspondence, intended to steal a truck and use it to run over visitors to the holiday fair. The suspect was detained on November 6.

Information about the preparation of the terrorist attack was received by German intelligence services from American intelligence in the spring of 2024, and the investigation was entrusted to investigators from Schleswig-Holstein.
