A person was found dead near the Supreme Court of Brazil after two explosions caused the evacuation of the building. “We can confirm that there is a body in front of the Supreme Court” in Brasilia, a federal police spokesperson told AFP.
The Brazilian Supreme Court was evacuated after two loud explosions heard near the Three Powers square in Brasilia. At the end of the court session, “two loud explosions were heard” and the judges and staff on site were evacuated “as a precautionary measure,” the court wrote in a statement. According to the Brazilian press, one person died in these explosions.
The victim is a man who allegedly took his own life by detonating a bomb after trying to enter the Supreme Court of Brasilia. The explosions reportedly occurred in front of the Supreme Court headquarters and near the Chamber of Deputies. A man was loaded with explosives and had tried in vain to enter the Federal Supreme Court of Brasilia, the local government reported, reassuring citizens that there were no other victims. The lone wolf, “approached the Federal Supreme Court, tried to enter, failed to do so and the explosion occurred at the door,” Brasilia Governor Celina Leao said at a news conference. Preliminary information is that it was a “suicide,” the governor added. “There are no injuries,” he explained.
