UN accuses Israel of violating truce conditions on border with Syria

The UN Observatory for Disengagement in the Golan Heights (UNDOF) accuses Israel of seriously violating the terms of the truce with Syria established half a century ago after the end of the Yom Kippur War. The BBC reports this.

According to the publication, several months ago Israel began constructing new fortifications on the western side of the UNDOF-occupied buffer zone. We are talking about embankments and ditches, the width of which reaches six meters.

Most of the work carried out under the cover of armored vehicles is carried out in territory controlled by Israel. However, at several points the fortifications penetrate into the buffer zone – no more than two meters. This violation angered the Syrian government.

At the same time, the head of the peacekeeping mission, Bernard Lee, in a conversation with a BBC correspondent, admitted that the early construction of such barriers on the border with the Gaza Strip could prevent a Hamas attack on Israel on October 7. The militants’ transport would not have been able to cross the ditches.
