Third yacht sank: series of accidents at death shipping company in the Red Sea

Hurghada (Egypt) – “If you are looking for an unforgettable diving safari in the Red Sea, then you have come to the right place.” This is how the shipping company “Dive Pro Liveaboard” advertises on its homepage.

It’s the shipping company, their yacht “Sea Story” sank in the Red Sea on Monday. And it’s not the first ship the company has lost. In the last three years alone, three Dive Pro Liveaboard yachts sank. And it was only in February that a German tourist was killed.

Seven people are still missing after the recent boat accident, four dead were recovered. There were 44 people on board the “Sea Story” – including six Germans, of whom only three have been rescued so far.

With this Hunt was the popular diving company from the holiday paradise Hurghada (Egypt) expired on Sunday evening despite a storm warning. But there were repeated serious accidents with the shipping company’s ships, as the British newspaper “The Sun” now reports.

Fire dramas on board

► In April 2022, a fire broke out on the “Scuba Scene” while the yacht was on the Red Sea. Nineteen guests, three dive guides and 14 crew members had to be evacuated. The ship sank shortly afterwards with all of the passengers’ belongings.

► Almost two years later there was another fire on board a “Dive Pro Liveaboard” ship. In February 2024 it hit the “Sea Legend”. There was a fire there at night, first in the kitchen area, then everywhere. The guests were woken up by the smell of smoke.

This luxury ship also sank. Although 31 passengers were rescued, a tourist (57) from Germany was missing. Authorities later confirmed the death of Michaela De Carlo from Bielefeld (NRW) in which Boat accident.

Massive safety deficiencies on board

Several horrified passengers later complained about the safety precautions on board: smoke and fire alarms didn’t work, there weren’t enough life jackets, and no one could remember an emergency signal being fired.

Search for missing people continues

Meanwhile, rescue teams continue to search for the seven missing people from “Sea Story”. At around 5:30 a.m. local time on Monday, a crew member sent a distress signal from the boat. Then the 34-meter yacht suddenly disappeared from the radar. The contact broke off.

As rescued crew members later reported, a gigantic wave hit the yacht. Screams could be heard from the cabins. Then the ship sank in just five minutes.
