The court annulled the decision of the Barcelona authorities to sever ties with Israel

The Barcelona Administrative Court annulled the city council’s decision to sever relations with Israel, considering it contrary to current legislation, as it violates the principle of equality.

The court decision states that the city authorities have created a situation in which Israeli institutions, companies and organizations are discriminated against, which is contrary to the constitution. The court also noted that the city council went beyond its powers.

According to the Betevé website, the appeal was filed by the pro-Israel organization ACOM, which actively opposes the BDS movement.

The Barcelona City Council announced that it intends to appeal the court decision.

The mayor of the Catalan capital, Ada Colau, announced the severance of relations with Israel due to its “policy of genocide against Palestinians” in early February. A letter was also sent to the Israeli Prime Minister explaining the reasons for this move. At the same time, city authorities stated that the severance of relations concerns only the government structures, and not the citizens of Israel.
