To ministers and undersecretaries of state who are not parliamentarians “the overall economic treatment” is paid. This is provided for in an amendment by the rapporteurs to the budget deposited in the Chamber Budget Committee. The rule essentially equates the remuneration of ministers and undersecretaries not elected in Parliament with those who are. The burden resulting from the provision is equal to 1.3 million euros starting from 2025. The opposition is already crying scandal.
“While the country is struggling to make ends meet – states the group leader of the Democratic Party in the House Budget Committee, Ubaldo Pagano – the government decides to allocate public resources to increasing the salaries of ministers. A choice that leaves us incredulous and appears even more serious in light of a budget maneuver that does not invest in healthcare, school, work and housing. The government pretends not to understand: we ask for an improvement in the conditions and salaries of Italians, not those of ministers and members of President Meloni’s party.”
“If confirmed, the majority amendment to the Budget law to increase the salary of ministers and undersecretaries who do not also hold the role of parliamentarian it would be truly shameful – adds Vittoria Baldino, deputy group leader of the M5S in the Chamber -. Even more so after that, between last night and this morning, FdI, Lega and FI rejected our proposals to increase minimum pensions by 100 euros per month, to introduce the minimum wage and to restore the citizen’s income. A country with a record number of absolute poor and almost 4 million working poor men and women does not deserve a government that continues to think only and exclusively of its own interests to the detriment of the community. Stop immediately.”
Stop paid non-EU positions for ministers and elected officials
Members of the government, parliamentarians, presidents of regions and autonomous provinces, unless previously authorized by the bodies to which they belong, cannot carry out paid roles in favor of public or private entities that do not have their registered or operational headquarters in the European Union. This is provided for in an amendment filed by the rapporteurs to the budget law. In case of non-compliance with the rule, we read in the text, the compensation received must be paid within thirty days of disbursement to the State Budget to be reassigned to the sinking fund for Government bonds. In case of non-payment, a penalty equal to the amount received will be applied.
