A 29-year-old native of Germany, an Armenian by nationality, crashed into a crowd of pedestrians in Berlin

Police in Berlin said a 29-year-old German from the ethnic Armenian community was driving a car that crashed into a crowd of pedestrians on a busy shopping street in Berlin’s Charlottenburg district.

The Berliner Zeitung quoted a spokesman for the investigating authorities as saying the driver was shocked by what had happened. It is known about the detainee that in the past he was prosecuted for crimes against property.

A video of the detained driver appeared on social networks. Users express doubt that the man captured in the video is only 29 years old, as he looks much older.

At the same time, the description of the clothes of the man who was driving the car coincides with how the man is dressed in the video: a yellow T-shirt, sweatpants and red sneakers.

At 10:26 a.m. (local time), a car drove into a crowd of pedestrians and then drove into a shop window. According to reports in the German media, a 51-year-old school teacher who accompanied the teenagers on an excursion died. Six more people were seriously injured and three were moderately injured. Dozens of people are injured easily.

The police do not rule out that it could be a terrorist attack.

It should be noted that in almost the same place – near the Kaiser Wilhelm Church – in December 2016, a migrant from Tunisia, Anis Amri, associated with the Islamic State, committed a terrorist attack. He crashed his truck into Christmas market goers. 12 people died, 50 were injured.
