Famous Lithuanian actor Regimantas Adomaitis dies

On Monday, June 20, it became known that the Lithuanian actor, People’s Artist of the USSR Regimantas Adomaitis died at the age of 85. His death was reported by the LRT (Lithuanian Radio and Television) portal.

Regimantas Adomaitis was born on January 31, 1937 (according to other sources – March 31) in Siauliai in the family of an engineer. As a child, he lived in the village of Šimonyai, Panevėžys district (now in the Pasvały district), studied at an elementary school in Migoniai. The family later lived in Pasvalis. He graduated from Pasvalis secondary school with a silver medal.

In 1954 he entered the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of Vilnius University and graduated in 1959, but already in 1958 he began studying at the Acting Department of the Vilnius Conservatory (now the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre). In 1962 he received an acting diploma.

In 1962-1963 he was an actor at the Drama Theater of Kapsukas (now Marijampole). In 1963-1967 – in the troupe of the Kaunas Drama Theatre.

Since 1967 – actor of the Lithuanian State Academic Drama Theater (now the National Drama Theater of Lithuania) (Vilnius).

He played in other theaters, including the Vilnius Maly Theatre, the Russian Drama Theater of Lithuania (Vilnius), the Baltic House (St. Petersburg), the Creative Association “DUET” (Moscow).

In 1988, he was a member of the Initiative Group of the Lithuanian Movement for Perestroika (Sąjūdis). He was a people’s deputy of the USSR (1989-1991).

Played in many plays and films. A wide audience is known for his roles in the films “Nobody Wanted to Die” (1965), “Sergey Lazo” (1967), “King Lear” (1970), “This sweet word is freedom!” (1972), “From the life of vacationers” (1980), “Green van” (1983), etc.

In the last years of his life, he was seriously ill, died on June 20, 2022.
