Iran received Trump’s 15-point ceasefire plan, but attacks continue

Iran received through Pakistani intermediaries a 15-point proposal from the United States for a ceasefire in the war, officials in Islamabad said Wednesday. The plan was sent as Washington began moving paratroopers to the Middle East to support a contingent of Marines already heading to the region.

Iran’s military, for its part, flouted the diplomatic effort and launched new attacks Wednesday against Israel and the Persian Gulf region, including one that caused a massive fire at Kuwait International Airport and left thick black smoke in the area.

According to Pakistani officials, the proposal broadly addresses sanctions relief, civil nuclear cooperation, a rollback of Iran’s nuclear program, oversight by the International Atomic Energy Agency, limitations on missiles and shipping access to the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow mouth of the Persian Gulf. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to disclose details of the plan.
