Mr. Trump continues to postpone the plan to attack Iranian power plants

“At the request of the Iranian government, I will postpone the plan to destroy their power plants within 10 days, until 8:00 p.m. on April 6 (7:00 a.m. on April 7, Hanoi time). Dialogues are continuing. Despite false information from the fake news media, negotiations are progressing well,” US President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social on March 26.

Meanwhile, Wall Street Journal Mediators quoted as saying that Iran did not make such a request and has not given a final response to the plan to end hostilities proposed by the US.

At the previous White House cabinet meeting, Mr. Trump threatened to increase pressure on Iran if the country did not reach an agreement with the US, while special envoy Steve Witkoff said there were “strong signs” that Tehran was willing to negotiate.

Mr. Witkoff also publicly confirmed for the first time that Washington had sent Tehran a 15-point “action list” through Pakistani officials. “We will wait and see how things develop, as well as whether the United States can convince Iran that this is a decisive turning point and that there is no better option for them, rather than facing more death and destruction,” he said.

President Trump on March 21 issued an ultimatum requiring Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours, otherwise the US will attack Iranian power plants. On March 23, he withdrew the ultimatum, saying he would postpone the attack for 5 days while negotiations with Tehran were progressing positively.

Iran depends mainly on thermal power plants, which generate more than 95% of the electricity supplied to about 40.6 million users, according to Iran’s Ministry of Energy. The country is operating about 130 thermal power plants with a total capacity of 78,000 MW.

The US President recently announced that he was “talking with the right people and they really want to reach an agreement” on the Iranian side, but did not name them specifically. He said Iran had “changed the regime” after the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and a series of top officials, because the current leaders are “very different” from the previous ones.

However, the Iranian military rejected information about negotiations with the US and emphasized that stability “is only achieved through strength”. Tehran also did not accept the ceasefire proposal that Washington made.
