Attack on heavy water reactor in Iran + booking gap from the Middle East for domestic tourism

The US government is considering diverting weapons destined for Ukraine to the Middle East, according to a newspaper report. The reason for this is that the war in Iran is using up the US military’s stocks of particularly important ammunition, reports Washington Post citing three people familiar with the matter. Weapons that could be diverted include air defense interceptor missiles procured under a NATO initiative launched last year in which partner countries buy U.S. weapons for Kiev, the report said.

The consideration comes at a time when U.S. operations in the region are increasing. Adm. Brad Cooper, head of Central Command in charge of U.S. forces in the Middle East, said Wednesday that the U.S. has struck more than 10,000 targets in Iran and is in the process of limiting Iran’s ability to expand power outside its borders.

A Pentagon spokesman told the newspaper that the Defense Department will ensure that “U.S. forces, as well as the forces of our allies and partners, have what they need to fight and win.” The Pentagon, US State Department and NATO did not initially respond to inquiries from Reuters for an opinion.
