Mr. Trump: Iran will no longer enrich uranium

President Trump said Washington and Tehran will cooperate to eliminate “nuclear fallout” in Iran, adding that Tehran will no longer enrich uranium.

“There will be no more uranium enrichment activities. The US will cooperate with Iran to excavate and remove all buried nuclear dust,” US President Donald Trump wrote on the social network Truth Social on April 8, referring to the Iranian nuclear facilities that were attacked by the US in June 2025.

The US then conducted Operation Night Hammer, using 125 military aircraft, 14 14-ton GBU-57 bunker-busting bombs and more than 20 Tomahawk missiles to attack Iranian nuclear facilities including Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan.

Mr. Trump also said the US would “cooperate closely with Iran, a country we have determined is undergoing effective regime change.”

He added that many parts of the 15-point proposal that the US previously made to Iran “have been approved”. The US will discuss with Iran about lifting tariffs and sanctions.

Iran has not commented on the above information.

The US President in another post later warned that the US would impose a 50% tax “immediately” on the goods of any country supplying weapons to Iran. “There will be no exceptions or exemptions,” he said.

At a press conference on the same day, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that Iran must give up its highly enriched uranium stockpile, otherwise the US will “seize it”.

“We know what they have. We will take it by any means necessary. They can hand it over voluntarily, or we will do it ourselves as we did during Operation Night Hammer,” he said.

Minister Hegseth said the US campaign had “completely” destroyed Iran’s ability to build missiles or other modern weapons.

“We have completely destroyed Iran’s defense industrial base, one of our core goals. They no longer have the ability to build missiles,” he said.

Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine said the US coalition had attacked more than 13,000 targets during the campaign in Iran. He said the US had destroyed 90% of Iran’s weapons factories, 90% of its naval fleet and 80% of its air defense systems.

“We hope Iran will choose lasting peace,” Mr. Caine said. “The ceasefire is only temporary and coalition forces are still ready to continue fighting if ordered.”

On April 7, Mr. Trump announced his acceptance of a two-week ceasefire agreement with Iran. He added that the reason for this decision is that the US has achieved all its military goals, and is very close to a definitive agreement on long-term peace with Iran, as well as peace in the Middle East.

Iran later confirmed the agreement, announcing that it would open the Strait of Hormuz during the ceasefire with the United States.

A few hours after the ceasefire took effect, Iranian state television reported that the country’s oil refinery facility on Lavan Island was attacked. They added that Iran launched missiles in response at Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared that it “does not trust” the US commitment despite the ceasefire, warned that “the finger is on the trigger” and did not hesitate to respond strongly to aggressive actions.
