At least two foreigners dead and 13 injured after a shooting in Teotihuacán, Mexico

And shooting committed this Monday in the archaeological zone of Teotihuacán (State of Mexico) caused at least two deaths -a Canadian tourist and the aggressor- and injured 13 foreigners, of whom eight remain hospitalized and five have been discharged, according to Mexican authorities.

The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, condemned the attack, expressed her solidarity with the victims and their families, and confirmed that her government maintains contact with Canadian authorities to follow up on the case and provide support to those affected.

For their part, the ambassadors of the United States and Canada have expressed their condolences over the tragedy.

On Monday morning, an armed man opened fire on visitors at the Pyramid of the Moon, in Teotihuacán, causing panic and a stampede before being found dead, while authorities investigate a possible suicide.

Teotihuacán is one of the most emblematic archaeological sites in Mexico, declared World Heritage by UNESCO and located about 50 kilometers from Mexico City.
