The United States intercepts and boards a tanker linked to Iran in the Indo-Pacific

United States forces intercepted and boarded a sanctioned tanker and linked to Iran in the Indo-Pacific area as reported this Tuesday by the War Department, in yet another action of pressure against the Islamic Republic, on which Washington maintains a naval blockade.

The American president, Donald Trump ordered the total blockade of the coasts of the Islamic Republic after a first round of negotiations that ended without results in Islamabad and after Tehran interrupted the passage through the Strait of Hormuz a strategic route through which 20% of the world’s crude oil passed.

Trump announced this Sunday that his country’s Navy seized an Iranian-flagged cargo ship that tried to pass through the naval blockade and as a result, it was stopped in its tracks when it received a shot in the hull that opened “a hole in the engine room.”

In total, the US has interrupted the passage of at least 27 ships since the naval blockade of the Iranian coast began, according to figures published this Monday by the Central Command (Centcom).

More than 10,000 US military personnel, 12 ships and 100 aircraft patrol the waters near Iran to ensure that no vessels enter and leave Iranian ports, according to Centcom.

This Tuesday, the Republican accused the Islamic Republic of violating the ceasefire “numerous times” and this Sunday he stated that Tehran fired “at a French ship and a United Kingdom cargo ship” in the Strait of Hormuz, in addition to renewing his threats to destroy bridges and power plants if an agreement was not reached.

Trump also announced that a US delegation led by Vice President JD Vance would travel to Pakistan for a second round of talks with their Iranian counterparts, hours before the truce expires tomorrow, Wednesday.
