CNN: Vance’s visit to Islamabad postponed amid Tehran’s silence

US Vice President J.D. Vance, who was supposed to fly to Pakistan on Tuesday morning to participate in the second round of negotiations with Iran, remains in Washington, CNN reports, citing sources familiar with the progress of the negotiation process.

When exactly Vance will fly to Pakistan and whether he will fly is unknown.

Additional meetings are being held at the White House on Tuesday to discuss future strategy. The Vice President takes part in them.

The key factor of uncertainty remains Tehran’s position. Pakistani Information Minister Attaullah Tarar wrote on the social network X that as of 19:30 Pakistan time, Tehran has not confirmed the participation of its delegation in the second round of peace talks in Islamabad. The current truce between the United States and Iran expires at 4:50 local time on April 22.

According to the Pakistani minister, Islamabad maintains constant contact with the Iranian side and is making every effort to convince Tehran to send a delegation before the end of the ceasefire.

Earlier, President Donald Trump said that an extension of the truce was “unlikely,” and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf accused Washington of trying to negotiate “in the shadow of threats” and declared Iran’s readiness to “reveal new cards on the battlefield.”

An Israeli security source told Kan-11 TV channel that Israel is preparing for a resumption of hostilities in Iran. “According to our estimates, the United States will not be able to reach an agreement with Iran, we are ready to resume the war immediately,” the TV channel quotes a source.
