Putin affirms that Russia will intercede for Iran and other Middle East partners to accelerate peace

The president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, confirmed this Monday that he will intercede for Iran, as well as for other countries in the Middle East, to accelerate the peace process in the region, which since the end of February has been mired in a serious crisis as a result of the war launched by the United States and Israel.

This was conveyed by Putin personally to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Abbas Araqchi, with whom he met in Saint Petersburg. “We will do everything possible for their interests and those of all the peoples of the region to ensure that this peace is achieved as soon as possible,” said the Russian leader.

Putin has also conveyed to Araqchi that Moscow shares the interest in continuing to strengthen ties with Tehran, in response to a letter recently sent by Iran’s supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei. “Russia, like Iran, intends to continue our strategic relations,” he said.

For his part, Araqchi has stressed that for Iran the strategic ties with Russia are of great importance and therefore they will continue along this path. “That is the path we will follow,” he said, according to the Russian agency Interfax.

Before Putin, he stressed that “the true power” of Iran has been clear in its response to the United States. “It has become clear that the Islamic Republic of Iran is a stable, strong and powerful system,” he noted, while insisting that the war has shown that Tehran has “great friends and allies like Russia.” “We thank you for your position and support,” he stated.

Araqchi is on tour these days after having visited Oman and Pakistan, which has tried unsuccessfully to mediate a summit so that authorities from Washington and Tehran could meet in Islamabad.

The ceasefire between Iran and Israel and the United States, originally negotiated between April 7 and 8, has been extended without a defined deadline until negotiations are concluded.
