NATO soldiers attacked in the Netherlands

Two German soldiers serving at the NATO operational headquarters, located in the Dutch city of Brunsum, were attacked in the Netherlands. The attackers, who were wearing masks, managed to escape.

According to Deutsche Welle, both soldiers were in civilian clothes. First, one of them was attacked. The serviceman was insulted, demanded money, and shouted “We hate NATO.” The soldier was able to escape and call the police. Meanwhile, the second soldier was beaten.

The soldiers who suffered minor injuries are OK, according to the German Defense Ministry. Dutch law enforcement authorities have launched an investigation, which also includes military police. The incident is classified as a security incident.

Brunsum is home to the NATO command, which is responsible for the defense of Central Europe – right up to the eastern borders of the alliance. After the war with Iran began, security was tightened and military personnel were ordered not to wear their uniforms outside the barracks.
