The son of the founder of Mango has been arrested and accused of murdering his father

The Mossos d’Esquadra, the Catalan police, have Jonathan Andic arrestedsuspected of the murder of his father, Isak Andic, founder of the clothing brand Mangowho died on 14 December 2024 following a fall along a path on Montserrat mountain. Jonathan was already under investigation in a sealed case and the Catalan police decided to arrest him as a preliminary measure before referring him to the judge. The arrest took place in the morning at Jonathan’s home, after months of speculation about his possible arrest or his direct summons before a judge. The police finally opted for arrest, but only to transfer him to Martorell (Barcelona) and bring him before the judge, who will take his statement as a suspect.

The accusation

The Catalan police consider Jonathan Andic a suspected in his father’s death since at least October last year. After noticing several contradictions in the two statements made as a witness, the investigators deepened their investigations. As he left the Mango store, the officers asked Jonathan for his cell phone, which he spontaneously handed over. Since then, the device has been analyzed for messages that may provide clues to a possible motive for the alleged crime.

Isak Andic died at the age of 71 while hiking on Mount Montserrat, accompanied only by Jonathan, the eldest of his three children. The founder of Mango fell from a height of over 100 metres. The Mossos d’Esquadra initially investigated the incident as a simple mountain accident.

The turning point in the investigation

However, the investigation took a different turn, mainly due to the contradictions in Jonathan’s testimony. The investigators discovered that, a few days before the accident, the eldest son had gone to the same place; according to defense sources, this was to prepare for the excursion.

The investigation confirmed that father and son had a sometimes conflictual relationshipespecially regarding Jonathan’s role in running the company.

The succession

Isak Andic decided to hand over the reins of the company to his eldest son in 2014, but had to return a year later to form a new team and relaunch it.

This hasty succession it didn’t work and, according to sources close to the investigation, it damaged the relationship between the two. But family relationships also soured after the entrepreneur’s death. His wife and children began an inheritance dispute. The will, signed by Andic before a notary in July 2023, provided for an equal division of the estate between the three children and also included a legacy, indicating that certain sums of money and assets were to go to specific people.

The entrepreneur – the richest man in Catalonia with a fortune estimated at 4.5 billion euros, according to Forbes – left his partner five million euros, a sum that she considered insufficient, asking for 70 million. After long negotiations, his children and his partner reached a preliminary agreement for a division of around 30 million euros.
