Choc in front of King Charles, a soldier falls from her horse and dies: the sovereign’s reaction

Tragedy at the Royal Windsor Horse Show, where a female soldier died following a fall from her horse whilst engaged with the King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery. The victim is Corporal Ciara Sullivan, 24, described by her commanding officer as an “exceptional horsewoman” with contagious energy. The accident occurred after leaving the arena, around 7pm last Friday, and the young soldier died on the spot despite prompt medical attention, according to Thames Valley Police.

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson reported that the king was “deeply shocked and saddened” upon learning of his death and that he would contact the family to offer his condolences. “Although Her Majesty and other members of the Royal Family were present in the arena at the time of the incident, they were not informed of the severity of the situation until later.”

Who was Ciara Sullivan

Sullivan was employed at the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth in 2022 and the coronation of Charles and Camilla the following year. Her commander said in a tribute released by the Ministry of Defence: “Corporal Ciara Sullivan, ‘Sully’ to her friends, was to all who had the privilege of serving alongside her, a shining light in whatever environment she entered.” She was praised as “an outstanding soldier and a role model for many of her colleagues.”

The “soldier of immense professionalism” was a skilled footballer and worked hard in the gym, “silently” involving the others too. “His patient training method helped many of the unit’s horse artillerymen realize their potential.” John Healey, British Defense Minister, described Sullivan as a “brilliant young soldier who served our nation with dedication. We are all deeply shocked and saddened by her death.”
