Iran indicates that 31 ships crossed Hormuz in the last 24 hours “with coordination” of the Revolutionary Guard

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Navy reported this Thursday that 31 ships have crossed the Strait of Hormuz in the last 24 hours, after the body created by Tehran to manage maritime traffic at this passage has defined the limits of its “jurisdiction” in the area.

He said this in a note broadcast by the state channel IRIB in which he specified that they were “oil tankers, container ships and other merchant vessels” that transited Hormuz under his “coordination and security.”

Likewise, the Navy has highlighted its efforts to “establish a safe and clear route” in the area “despite the aggression of the US Army” and “unprecedented insecurity” in the Persian Gulf.

The body created by Iran to manage maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, the so-called Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA), published this Wednesday a map with the limits of its “jurisdiction” in the area, one of the main choke points for international trade, within the framework of Iranian actions in response to the aforementioned offensive, launched by surprise on February 28.

For its part, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced this Thursday that its forces have “redirected 94 commercial vessels and immobilized four” in compliance with the blockade imposed on Iranian ports by the Trump Administration.

The Iranian authorities announced on April 17 that they were ending their traffic restrictions in the area once a temporary ceasefire in Lebanon was confirmed the day before, although they assured that they were reimposing them after President Donald Trump affirmed in response – after applauding Tehran’s gesture – that US forces would maintain their blockade of Iranian ports through this means.

Trump later announced the extension of the ceasefire reached on April 8 following a request from Pakistan, which is mediating the process, although he insisted that the blockade will remain in place. The blockade and assault and seizure of Iranian ships in the area has been one of the reasons given by Tehran for not going to Islamabad to negotiate, considering that these actions represent a violation of the ceasefire.
