Against undeclared work: Customs with action in gastronomy

With a large-scale operation, customs officials across the state of Brandenburg have taken action against undeclared work and illegal employment. Around 170 emergency services targeted 26 restaurants and accommodation businesses in one day, the police said. In a total of 27 cases, criminal proceedings were initiated on suspicion of, among other things, withholding social security contributions or illegal residence without a residence permit.

Among other things, the officials checked whether employers had properly registered their employees for social insurance or whether social benefits were being received incorrectly. It was also checked whether foreigners had the necessary work permits and residence permits. In addition to the criminal proceedings, administrative offense proceedings were initiated in a total of 66 cases. This involved, for example, the suspicion of illegal employment of foreigners. In addition, in some cases it should now be checked whether the statutory minimum wage has been paid. In addition, possible abuse of social benefits was uncovered.
