US threatens Arab ally with sanctions if it supports Iran

The statement was made by Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, on the social network

“The US government will not tolerate any effort to impose a toll system in the Strait of Hormuz,” Bessent warned.

“Oman, in particular, should know that the Treasury Department will take aggressive action against any actor involved — directly or indirectly — in facilitating cross-strait tolls, and any willing partner will be sanctioned,” he added.

The secretary insisted that “all nations should categorically reject any effort by Iran to disrupt the free flow of trade.”

Asked about the matter the previous day, President Donald Trump warned that the US will not allow any country to control the strait, stating that they are “international waters”, and threatened to “blow up” Oman if the country tries to do so.

According to the Axios portal, negotiators from Iran and the US reached an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, blocked by Iran. However, Trump’s definitive approval had not yet been confirmed.
