Finnish parliament report: defense spending needs to be doubled, main threat is Russia

This year, this budget item amounts to 7.7 billion euros. According to the authors of the document, already in 2029, more than 14 billion are needed to ensure defense capability, and by 2036 – up to 15 billion. This is more than the NATO plan, which calls for direct defense spending to reach 3.5% of GDP.

The document names Russia as the main threat, noting its unpredictability. At the same time, it also talks about changes in military affairs, the development of technology, and a revision of transatlantic obligations on the distribution of costs.
