What was on the menu under Prince Heinrich? Where did the food on the farm come from? An exhibition at Rheinsberg Castle will be dedicated to these questions from June 12th. According to the organizers, the basis of the exhibition is the cookbooks of Georg Singstock, who worked first as a chef and later as a master chef in Rheinsberg at the end of the 18th century. When Heinrich died in 1802, he retired.
“The dishes described are remarkably down-to-earth and international at the same time,” wrote the organizers. Many local products came from the kitchen gardens in Rheinsberg, but other ingredients also came from far away. For example, oyster shells were found at the castle. They probably come from waste from the farm kitchen.
On the occasion of Prince Heinrich’s 300th birthday, the cultural scene in Rheinsberg is particularly devoting itself this year to Frederick the Great’s little brother. “Henry of Prussia was much more than just the little brother of Frederick the Great,” emphasized Brandenburg’s Culture Minister Manja Schüle (SPD) months ago. He is “the one who made Rheinsberg what it is to this day: a place of arts, curiosity, inspiration.”
