Iran: Khamenei, "Dealt a decisive blow to the enemies". The IAEA presses on nuclear power

The war against Iran represented “a setback” for the United States and Israel, to which Tehran dealt a “decisive blow”. This was declared by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, Mojtaba Khamenei, in a written message released on the occasion of the anniversary of the death of the founder of the regime, Ruhollah Khomeini.

In his speech, the Supreme Leader warned that the United States and Israel were seeking to “divide” the Iranian nation after suffering a “crushing defeat” in the conflict launched against his country. “Their main tool to weaken Iran is to sow doubt, desperation, fear, distrust and division,” Khamenei wrote in the statement read aloud, reiterating that “the malevolent enemy” has met with heavy failure on the battlefield.

The IAEA alarm: nuclear sites inaccessible for a year

Parallel to the tensions in the field, there is a harsh warning from the International Atomic Energy Agency. The IAEA has in fact raised the alarm over the impossibility of accessing Iranian nuclear sites, formally asking Tehran to allow new checks. In a confidential document, the international body highlights how the lack of inspections represents a serious “cause of concern for proliferation”, inviting Iran to “cooperate constructively”.

“Although the Agency recognizes that military attacks against Iranian nuclear facilities and sites have created an unprecedented situation, it is essential to be able to conduct verification activities in Iran without delay”, reads the text signed by the UN agency.

Uranium data before the 2025 attacks

The international community’s fears are rooted in the historical data of Tehran’s nuclear program. Before the US attacks in June 2025, the IAEA estimated that Iran possessed about 440 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60 percent, a threshold close to the 90 percent needed to make an atomic bomb and well above the 3.67 percent limit that was set by the 2015 agreement.

For a year now, however, the Iranian government has categorically refused inspectors access to sites that had been hit by US and Israeli raids. “The agency’s lack of access for almost a year to test highly enriched uranium and low-enriched uranium is a cause for proliferation concern,” underlines the report, in which Director General Rafael Grossi calls on Iran to show constructive involvement to facilitate the full implementation of safeguards.

New clash at sea: US ship hit

Tension also remains very high on the maritime military front. The Iranian Navy announced that it had targeted the command and control center of a US destroyer, an action presented by Tehran as an immediate response to “hostile actions” that had been conducted against the ships of the Islamic Republic.
