Football World Cup: Visa is here: Swiss Embolo can fly to the World Cup

Swiss national striker Breel Embolo can travel to the USA in time for the start of the World Cup. As the association announced, the 29-year-old received the visa and can fly on Friday. The plan is for him to join the team on Friday evening (US local time).

Embolo missed the departure with the team because there were problems with his entry documents. The 29-year-old had to go to the US embassy in Bern again and apply for a visa, the Swiss association said.

Visa status ESTA

Embolo was unable to fly with the team to the United States on Tuesday. The player’s electronic travel authorization (ESTA) was approved by Tuesday morning, the association said. “At 10:30 a.m. we received information that his ESTA was being clarified again.” A day later, Embolo applied for a visa

Switzerland has moved into its World Cup quarters in San Diego. On Saturday she will play a test match against Australia. In Group B we face Qatar, co-hosts Canada and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Embolo played for FC Schalke 04 and Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga from 2016 to 2022. Last year he played two friendly games in the USA with the Swiss – and scored a goal in both the 4-2 win against Mexico and the 4-0 win against the Americans.
